Do my bumper stickers make me look young?

Just a couple months ago I started to think about getting rid of my bumper stickers.  I’m almost 30, it’s probably about that time.

But every time the thought creeps up in my head I always come to the conclusion that I will just grow up when I get a new car.  But my Nissan, God bless her, keeps hanging on and so, as a result, do my stickers.

What do you think?  Do my bumper stickers make me seem like a kid?

I know people notice them.  “Oh ya, I always look for the bumper stickers” they say.

And just the other day when I arrived at work one of the busses pulled in behind me and the bus driver called me over to his door.  He said, “I think I end up following you a lot and I just wanted to meet you.  After following all your bumper stickers for weeks I feel like I know you.”

He then went on to list all of the things that make me, me.  “You’re a half marathon runner, you have a friend named Mandi who passed away, you may have gone to UNH…”  I smiled the whole time as he named off important things in my life and I coached him through another: “Yes, and I lived in Europe!”

“Oh, right,” he said.  “The I love Heidelberg sticker.”

We got to talking about why I lived there and come to find out he used to be a college referee!  It’s funny how just a few stickers (and the courage to strike up a conversation) can connect two people.

This connection made my day.

I have 20 or 30 MORE stickers that I started placing on a coffee table instead of my aging car so I could keep them forever (unlike my Nissan).  I love having little keepsakes of all the small things in life that I enjoy or just a little sticker to bring me back to all the memories that a place blessed me with.

The conversation with the bus driver made me smile and realize how important the things on my bumper stickers are to me.  I want to share my experiences and maybe sometimes my little stickers will bring back memories to others and if they do that only once in my life then they will have served their purpose.

About Danielle Clark

I am 28 years old and for 5 years out of college I played basketball for a living. I was a professional basketball player in Europe so I spent most of my years there and came back to Maine for summers and a couple weeks at Christmas time. I thought my years there would open my eyes to what I want to be when I "grow up." That didn't happen. I have discovered, however, that I just have to try something. Just do things and toss myself into them. I have currently tossed myself into being a college basketball assistant coach and one on one reading tutor. I grew up in Corinna, Maine and have been a resident Mainer. I love sports, reading, writing, cooking, baking, watching movies... everything. I have lots of hobbies and not enough time in the day!
