I Traded My Afternoon Coffee for an Afternoon Run

“I literally want to go to bed at 8 tonight.”

Text sent at 1:50pm.

And I meant it.

I was dragging after a long day the previous day and even thought about taking an afternoon nap(gasp!).

In the early afternoon I usually have a coffee and relax but the mid-January 40-degree anomaly of a day was calling me.

It was just a short window of inspiration but I’ve found if you hurry then you don’t have enough time to talk yourself out of something.  So I changed quickly into running clothes and went outside.

On the first strike of my run I was awake: breathing in the air of melting snow, feeling the sun on my face, and hearing the crunch of dirt on my Nikes.

I still enjoy my afternoon coffee though, too.

**Try it! Run, walk, or just jump in place for a minute if you are feeling sluggish and you’ll feel the affects.  I mean, it’s a fact that exercise boosts energy but go out and feel it for yourself.

About Danielle Clark

I am 28 years old and for 5 years out of college I played basketball for a living. I was a professional basketball player in Europe so I spent most of my years there and came back to Maine for summers and a couple weeks at Christmas time. I thought my years there would open my eyes to what I want to be when I "grow up." That didn't happen. I have discovered, however, that I just have to try something. Just do things and toss myself into them. I have currently tossed myself into being a college basketball assistant coach and one on one reading tutor. I grew up in Corinna, Maine and have been a resident Mainer. I love sports, reading, writing, cooking, baking, watching movies... everything. I have lots of hobbies and not enough time in the day!
