I’m happy. I wouldn’t say my faith in the inherent goodness of people is restored but I’m happy. I’m proud that my home state of Maine voted in favor of same-sex marriages.
Maybe I was being overly optimistic but last night, as I was watching the voting numbers coming in, I couldn’t believe how high the “No’s” were rising. Even now, with 92% of the votes in, there are over 300,000 people who voted against legalizing same-sex marriages.
Happily, there are thousands MORE people who voted in support of love yesterday and I only see that number rising in the future.
Yesterday one of the secretary’s at work (a woman in her 60s) clasped her hands together when talking about Question 1 as she said, “Oh, I really hope this passes, and if it does, I’m going to give my daughter a wedding!”
She started tearing up as she went on to explain, “She’s been with her partner for several years now and there is no reason why they shouldn’t have what my husband and I have.”
Words and tears that were so true and spoken from the heart. Who could disagree with that?
