Vacationland

Summer in Maine is absolutely perfect.

Okay, maybe I’m biased and maybe those perfect days make me forget about the not-so-perfect ones but I love it.  I really do.

This summer I’ve found myself saying, “wow, Maine is so pretty,” or just pointing and saying, “look how pretty that is,” more than I can count.  I get to travel over most of the state on a weekly basis so I see plenty of the different sides of Maine.

Downtown Bangor

Rural Dover-Foxcroft

Portland’s Ocean

And pretty soon I plan to make the yearly hike up Katahdin (who’s with me?).  Our state is gorgeous.  I err on the summer’s beauty because that’s what I’ve come to adore about Vacationland for the past 5 years.  During that time I’ve only been home from April-September so I’ve always cherished it.

I feel so lucky to be able to enjoy everything Maine has to offer.  I only work for a couple weeks during the summer and I don’t know as if I could have it any other way.  Maine has so much to offer that I usually do take advantage of but I thought I’d share my “Summer Bucket List.”  Maybe you all could make a similar one or at least I’ll be publishing this and have to hold myself accountable.  I know it’s already July (holy!) but summer technically started only 10 days ago.

So here it is:

Climb Mt. Katahdin—done this for the past two years, plan to make it three in a row.

See the Sunrise in Eastport—I wanted to do this last summer but I never did.  It’s the most eastern point of the United States.  I’ve seen the sunrise on Cadillac Mountain now it’s time to see it in the first town of the country.

Drive-In Movie—Never been, needs to happen.

Live Music—Already seen a couple but plans are in the works for more.

Bon fires/camp fires—done, will continue to happen

S’MORES—I have probably overdone this but that’s what summer is for.

White water rafting—August 13th!

Lots of lake time—One trip down, lots to go.

Camping

Skinny dipping

Beach, beach, and more beach

Rent a convertible and take a day trip on Maine’s coast

An entire day without technology—I hope this can be on a monthly basis.

Waterpark and/or amusement park

Red Sox—Already saw Big Papi hit a grand slam as a part of a 15-run game for the Sox.

This will probably get added to as I realize even more things Maine has to offer but above all, I just want to enjoy the summer, the people I love, try new things, and do things I love.

About Danielle Clark

I am 28 years old and for 5 years out of college I played basketball for a living. I was a professional basketball player in Europe so I spent most of my years there and came back to Maine for summers and a couple weeks at Christmas time. I thought my years there would open my eyes to what I want to be when I "grow up." That didn't happen. I have discovered, however, that I just have to try something. Just do things and toss myself into them. I have currently tossed myself into being a college basketball assistant coach and one on one reading tutor. I grew up in Corinna, Maine and have been a resident Mainer. I love sports, reading, writing, cooking, baking, watching movies... everything. I have lots of hobbies and not enough time in the day!
